Outside-in instead of inside-out

Two sides_2

Netradar insights blogs will highlight topical industry matters, raise questions and give perspectives on things which are not so often discussed in public domain. According to Merriam-Webster insight can be defined as follows:

i. the power or act of seeing into a situation

ii. the act or result of apprehending the inner nature of things or of seeing intuitively

Most of the time telecom industry is very traditional, however I have seen many operators to take significant steps forward in collecting market relevant data, which gets used in both strategic decision making as well as operational business optimization.

Unfortunately, very often these insights are inside-out rather than outside-in. Operators have installed numerous systems to monitor performance of their service delivery machine. I have encountered many occasions where operator’s Chief Technical Officer claims that his network is in top-notch condition (as per statistics reports of their network vendor) but at the same time Chief Marketing Officer is burdened with numerous angry customer complaints and CEO is very worried about their declining market share position.

Very often this is due to fact that outside-in view is missing – what is the market competitive context? How is the service performance as seen through the eyes of consumers or corporate customers? One needs to establish a common language, shared objectives and measures.

This outside-in view is something that we at Netradar are passionate about. We strive for the ultimate truth by helping our partners to make better business decisions based on insights.
